Two finished objects - a sock and a shrug - Update on my Year of Projects

I decided to join the A Year of Projects Blog-Along on Ravelry >> - you can find details here >>

So here is my update on what I achieved this week.

Broken Seedstitch Socks: Done, Christmas Shrug: Done

Wow, I am impressed with myself: I finished the Broken Seedstitch Socks >> on Monday this week:

I really like how they turned out! The even look nice on the inside:

The sock in front is shown on the inside - I really like the purl bumbs!

I would love to cast on another pair immediately, but I need to "produce" more leftovers first, so I decided to cast on a nearly plain vanilla sock with some ribbing >>

My go-to nearly vanilla pattern "Schicke Stinos"

In addition, I also finished that Christmas knitting shrug >>

Modeling my christmas shrug

So I am quite good in my goal achieving mode. However, I am totally not in a mood to work on the Breathing Space sweater >>

I would have 3 and a bit balls of Drops Air >> which I would like to use up - but I cannot decide what to make from it: Another poncho/capelet thingie? Another shrug? A cowl?

Do you have any suggestions?
Please let me know in the comments below!

Also I do not have an idea for the advent project, but I am hoping this will come to me in time - it is still more than a month after all!

I did some massive investment in knitting magazines this week: I bought the German translations of Vogue Knitting, called "Designer Knitting" * >> (Early Fall and Fall) as well as the German "The Knitter" * >>

I really like the Fair Isle scarf inVogue Knitting >> and I think I am in the mood for some stranded colourwork again. I have a project lying around >> which I started last year from Drops Nord and I already thought about frogging it, but now I think I will continue.

I can't wait to try out the stranded technique which Torsten Duit describes in this video >> It is quite similair to what I did so far, but maybe this is even better.

As for the rest of the week, this looks quite promising: Fall has finally arrived, it is quite cool (aroun 10 degrees Celsius) and we finally had a little rain - perfect knitting weather!

Also, we have a bank holiday here in the southwest of Germany on Thursday and I also took the Friday of, so a long weekend ahead - yeah!

So, what are your plans for the week?
Do you have suggestions for my Drops Air?
Or for the advent project?
And how do you knit stranded colourwork?

  1. Wow - the Broken Seed Stitch socks are truly as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. What fun those will be to wear! And your Christmas Shrug looks so cozy! I love the diagonal stripes.

    1. Thanks Becki! Yes, I also really like the diagonal stripes and are already planning on doing something similair in the near future. It is quite thin, though, as it is just fingering weight yarn.

  2. The broken seed stitch socks are lovely. When I do two stranded knitting I hold a colour in each hand and knit one colour continental and the other english. That way my yarns don't get tangled. I have soo many ideas for advent knits, but I am just fixated on my shawl right now, and on baby knitting for my upcoming granddaughter.

    1. I tried holding the yarn in both hands but that did not work for me so far. Currently I have a bit of a problem to find a solution for an even tension with the yarn of the colour which is less used - this is usually a little "sloppy" - will keep on training, I guess.

  3. Your broken seed stitch socks look fantastic, no wonder you want to cast on another pair immediately. The shrug turned out just great and I'm sure an idea for your advent project will come along soon.

    1. Thanks Lucy - and I also like the drape of this yarn. I am seriously thinking about making anotherone for myself to keep, but I only have coppercoloured and anthrazit yarn, which is not the best choice for my complexion.

  5. I love those socks and they are going on my 'list'! Yours are so pretty! I've never done stranded knitting yet but it is also on my list. Your shrug is gorgeous and love the colors and striping. I have Breathing Space 'faved' in Ravelry and seeing your lovely colors really inspires me. I would probably make a cowl if theire's enough yarn but then I am in a 'cowl' mood! LOL! Have a great week!

    1. Thanks for the compliment! I can't wait to see your version of the broken seedstitch socks! Yes, I am leaning to a cowl-capelet think as well. I already have two from this yarn and really like them and wear them a lot.

  6. The socks have come out so well. They look so good. The shrug is gorgeous, I love the drape, very smart but looks comfortable too. Does an advent project have to be finished by Christmas and does it need to be Christmas relatedness.

  7. *related not relatedness! Auto correct went mad!

  8. Those socks are great! I love scrappy socks. My stash of sock leftovers was helped by other knitters donating their sock yarn leftovers to me.

Pretty shrug! Nicely modelled too * waves hello!

I don’t have any suggestions for your yarn or your advent project..l’m busy trying to talk myself out of a double knit Doctor Who scarf. I don’t love double knitting and I find scarves tiring and endless, so why do I so want to knit this scarf?! Argh!,
