I will join the Year of Projects on Ravelry - here is my list

Okay, English content for a change! I got absolutely inspired by Ella  of Stiehl & Style>> who mentioned a great Ravelry group called "Year of Projects" >>

The idea is that you post a list of projects you want to complete during a 12 month period. The "official" start was on July 1st, but you are welcome to join in whenever you feel like it.

So this is what I will do - I start TODAY, September 18 (which happens to be 3 month away from my birthday...) and here is what I want to complete within the next 12 month:

Domic's Year of Projects 2018/2019 - what do I want to finish?

I have to be careful not to put too much pressure on myself. I tend to be very motivated in the beginning, but then motivation rapidly declines after 3 month or so and it feels like pressure to get that list done. It is a hobby, after all, and I want it to be fun! That being said, here we go:

1. Knit 12 pairs of socks (1 pair done by Oct. 6)

2. Finish my Atempause sweater >>

3. Finish a cropped cardigan from stash yarn

4. Knit a two coloured big shawl from my stash of handpainted sockyarn

5. Declutter my yarn stash - use what I have and give away or sell what I do no longer like

6. Use the rest of my Frankenwolle Merinoyarn >> for a garment

7. Find a nice knitting-related Advent Calendar activity which will NOT add stash either in yarn, patterns or candy... ;-)

8. Find or found a regular knitting group here in Ettlingen to meet on Thursday nights (there is one very nice group on Wednesdays >>, but Wednesdays do not work for me at all!)

9. Knit a sweater/ garment incorporating stranded colourwork

10. Knit 24  little socks for the advent calendars of the Kinderklinik Tübingen >> - reached that goal on Sep. 30

11. Try podcasting or Youtube videos - I am not sure if this is for me, but I am absolutely curious to try!

12. Knit a project which includes steeking -that would be a first time for me.

So, now I am totally of to browse the blogs of my fellow crafters in the Ravelry group!
Maybe you would like to join as well?
See you over in the  Ravelry group "A Year of Projects" >>

Oh, and in case you have any idea for the advent calendar activity (number 7 on my list) or for how to declutter my yarn stash (number 5) - just let me know in the comments below!

  1. Welcome to our YOP group, I look forward to seeing your updates, Do the advent things need to be Christmas related, like crochet snowflakes or knitted snowmen or Santa Claus?

    1. Hi there, thanks for your comment! No, the advent things do not necessarily have to be Christmas or winter related. Last year, I knitted little hearts from sockyarn to be used as gift tags and little gifts during the year.

  2. So glad you're joining the Year of Projects, Domics! Your list looks great and I agree - keep it fun, and don't allow any sense of pressure to mess with you. Looking forward to seeing any podcasting you do.

    1. Thanks Becky! Well, I guess I really have to dive deeper into this podcasting thing now that I made it public? ;-) But the first thing to reach will be the 24 little socks. I guess I will make these a priority as there is the deadline of beginning of October glooming over me...

  3. Welcome to the group. I love the list and there is no pressure. We encourage and cheer along but never police your projects or progress! I don't think I have any novel advent suggestions, I knit socks and I did the land of sweets cowl last year with mine.

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Lucy! I will have a look at that land of sweets cowl. I am also leaning towards socks currently

  4. Welcome......it is always nice to have new bloggers join us. Your list is great. I decluttered my stash a few months ago. I donated my unloved yarn to our prauer shawl ministry at our church. Another place that is always looking for donated yarn is nursing homes or assisted living facilities. The ladies there make beautiful items and sometimes sell them for a bit of pocket money.

    1. Hm - there is a nursing home on my way to work, I could just stop by and ask. And one of my neighbours is the head of our local Kindergarden, so I will ask her as well.

  5. Welcome. De-stashing is great - I have mine well under control after making my memory blanket for my king sized bed. I have learned to give away what I am not using - now if I don't cast on something right away with new yarn then I realize I have just bought it because it is pretty, but not necessarily practical. I look forward to following you on your journey.

    1. Thanks for your comment! Wow, a blanket for a king sized bed! My memory blanket is way smaller, but it was fun making. Currently, I am using my sockyarn scraps for that advent socks charity project. We will see what else I come up with.
