No finished object, but good progress and a new cowl

I decided to join the A Year of Projects Blog-Along on Ravelry >> - you can find details here >>

So here is my update on what I achieved this week.

Made good progress on my Schicke Stino socks

I made quite some progress on my Schicke Stinos >>

I finished my first sock and started the second where I am about 4 cm into the leg/cuff.

Finished Schicke Stino No. 1 from Buttinette Yarn

I quite like the Buttinette yarn which I bought as part of their birthday offer last year: You always get a 5 Euro voucher when you order yarn around your birthday... Well... I thought it was a good idea to spend the birthday money I also get! I decided to make this a size 40/41, which means I knitted the foot after the heel turn for 16 cm before starting the toe.

I mainly knit on these as my early morning knitting in bed, but also did the finishing on the first sock - i.e. the toe - on the bank holiday we had on the first of November - lots of knitting time for me, yeah!

Started a cowl from my Drops Air - the Schlauchdingens

You might remember that I thought about what to do with my leftover Drops Air last week >> Well, I finally decided to start a cowl/poncho/capelet thingie again.

As I saw one I really liked on Instagram with my friend Stricktick >> I decided to go for a pattern called "Schlauchdingens" (a.k.a. Tube Thingie) >> and started my own version >> using the leftover balls of Drops Air.

My Schlauchdingens - finished grey, started brown on Nov. 1st

I still really like the yarn and how cozy and fluffy it is and I can't wait to wear the finished object. This is plain stockinette in the round all the time, so perfect mindless knitting while watching podcasts or TV or while reading.

Speaking of Yarn: Bought another ball of bamboo sockyarn

Remember the shrug I finished >> last week? I really liked the yarn * >>, but I now only have anthrazit and a copper ball left which would be a colour combination which does not really suit me.

So I when I went for a shopping stroll to town this Friday, I took the rest of my birthday yarn voucher from last year with me and was lucky to buy another ball of the cream yarn. So I can go for another shrug for myself, sriping it in copper, dark grey and cream - well, after I finsihed the Schlauchdingens, I guess.

Or I might use this for a shawl instead - I really like Steven West's Texture Time, so I might use it for that - but I have to double-check how much yarn you need for that in total...

Some ideas about my Advent knitting - a star pillow, maybe?

We are in November, so it is only 4 weeks to go for 1st of December when I would like to start my Advent knitting. There is a free pattern for a Star pillow >> which was all the rage in the German speaking knitting community some years ago. I always wanted to make one, but never got to it.

I also still have two balls of the glittery christmas sockyarn from Buttinette from some years ago, and I do not want to make more glittery socks from it - so this would be the perfect use, right?

I will at least have a closer look on the pattern and see how I could devide it within the 24 days.

So, what about your week?
What do you plan to knit within the next days?

  1. I love the star pillows and think your yarn sounds perfect for them. I've not seen them before. Great progress on your sock, it's really coming along and the cowl/poncho/capelet in the Drops Air looks so soft and snuggly.

    1. Thanks! Yes, the Drops Air is a great yarn. I meanwhile had a deeper look into the pattern for the pillow and I am not so sure... there is a lot of placing stitches on holders going on there which sounds quite tedious... Well, we will see.

  2. Those star pillows are super cool. I had never heard of them but now am putting them on a future to do list. The sock is pretty. Love the colorway. You have done quite a bit this week. Bet you have a finish by next week.

    1. Yes, I actually finished the socks yesterday as I knit on them monogamously. So I have only the cowl thing left to work on, I am confident I might finish that as well.

  3. Sorry if this appears twice, I have switched from Explorer to Chrome, as my comments don’t seem to work sometimes...anyway, I very much look forward to seeing your star pillow.

    1. No problem- I only see one comment. So you say I should definitely make the star pillow? Hm...

    1. Thanks Becki! Well, it is good that there is still 4 weeks to go, at the moment I am not sure about the pillow. I might go ahead and divide the pattern into 4 parts, so I can knit 1 part every week..

    1. Can't wait to see your version! Maybe we should start a Mini KAL in the Year of Projects group?

    1. Thanks - I already finished the sock. And maybe we should really do a KAL, as so many of you like the pattern!

  7. Your socks are turning out great and the yarn is fabulous. I'm going to have to order some Drops Air as I love the yarn you are using for your shrug/sowl. It sounds like a project made for t.v. watching.
I did a star ornament with beads last year....actually a tree topper with sparkly yarn and I enjoyed doing it. It's the same idea but smaller. I'm sure a pillow would be great also. You go girl!
